How to Choose Lingerie That Actually Fits
Finding lingerie that actually fits isn’t about rules—it’s about knowing what to look for.
If you’ve ever ordered something that looked incredible online but didn’t feel right when it arrived, you’re not alone.
Here’s how to make better choices—without overcomplicating it.
Start with what you already wear
The easiest place to start is with something you already own.
- What size do you normally wear?
- Does it feel comfortable? Read our guide on choosing comfortable lingerie you will want to wear.
- Do you tend to size up or down?
Use that as your baseline—not the label. If you need a reference point, start with our lingerie size guide.
Understand how lingerie is designed to fit
Not all pieces fit the same way.
- Underwire styles → more structured, more support
- Stretch lace / mesh → more forgiving, flexible fit
- Bodysuits → need to balance length + stretch
- Multi-piece sets → adjustable, more customisable
Knowing this makes choosing easier.
Pay attention to adjustability
This is where good pieces stand out.
Look for:
- Adjustable straps at shoulders, waist and hips
- Hook-and-eye closures at back with at least three hooks
- Stretch panels, particularly those in the hips or cups
- Removable elements such as garters, clips, and embellishments
These give you room to tweak the fit.
If you’re between sizes
In general:
Size up for comfort
Size down for a firmer fit
Most of our sets come with multiple adjustments, including sliders on the G-string hips so you can choose a larger cup size but still maintain a great fit across the rest of the set.
Don’t overthink it
Lingerie isn’t meant to be restrictive.
If something feels:
- too tight
- awkward
- or like you have to constantly adjust it
…it’s not the right piece for you.
The Blackmarket approach
