The Blackmarket Lingerie: Sustainability and Responsible AI Policy
THE BLACKMARKET LINGERIE: SUSTAINABILITY & RESPONSIBLE AI POLICY
At The Blackmarket Lingerie, we believe beautiful things shouldn’t come at the planet’s expense. As a values-led, women-founded business, we’re committed to doing better across every part of our operations — from how we power our studio to how we use artificial intelligence.
This document outlines our current commitments and ongoing goals across three core areas:
1. Responsible AI Use
We use AI to streamline certain parts of our business — not to replace people, creativity, or connection. Our current AI use includes:
What we do:
Use AI to assist with admin tasks, early content drafts, and campaign planning
Use AI to analyse data and spot trends that help us serve you better
Always human-review AI outputs before publishing or sending
What we don’t do:
Use AI in customer service chats or reviews
Replace creatives, photographers, or real team voices
Share or sell your personal data
We’ve also committed to exploring lower-energy AI platforms to reduce our carbon footprint, and we’ve published our Responsible AI Blog Post to stay transparent.
2. Sustainable Packaging
We aim to minimise waste in every order and proudly use:
Recycled cardboard gift boxes
Acid-free dyed tissue paper
Compostable postage bags and labels
Recycled kraft paper bags hand-stamped with our logo
Recycled paper stickers and eco tape
What makes us different? We’ve asked our manufacturer not to individually wrap products, which reduced our incoming plastic packaging from 50 bags per shipment to just 3.
3. Sustainable Operations
We’ve designed our entire setup with impact in mind:
Our office is 100% solar-powered
We deliver daily local orders by electric bike or scooter
All business errands and market days are handled in an electric vehicle
We pay for monthly pickups with RecycleSmart for soft plastics, batteries, textiles (including those from our neighbours!)
We recycle all cardboard packaging
Our warehouse is fully fitted with second-hand shelving, furniture, and fixtures
What’s Next?
We’re working toward:
Net zero emissions by 2030
Developing a sustainability scorecard for each product
Further reducing packaging footprint at the manufacturer level
We’re not perfect — but we are persistent. Sustainability is an ongoing practice, and we’re proud to be taking bold, honest steps.
